Integrated Care Systems

Driving significant care improvements and financial savings through a smarter, safer and more efficient mental health care pathway.

Targeted support

Thalamos eMHA, working in partnership with Integrated Care Systems, best demonstrates the full power, interoperability, and functionality of the software for users, patients, and all stakeholders involved with the Mental Health Act (MHA).

Our eMHA product delivers bespoke functionality at both a local and regional level, as well as constructing a unified digital architecture for all Mental Health Trusts, Acute Hospitals, Police, Local Authorities, Ambulance, and AMHPs to collaborate across.

By joining up the whole pathway and care system, Thalamos eMHA delivers a level of data that is impossible to collate with paper-based systems as well as driving significant care improvements and financial savings through a smarter, safer and more efficient mental health care pathway.

By reinvesting clinical time and financial savings back into the system, existing mental health budgets can support additional services and greater capacity to reduce waiting lists and speed up recovery.

Case Study

NHS Dorset Integrated Care System

In 2024, Thalamos were selected by Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust to deliver a Mental Health Act (MHA) digitisation programme, having scored highest across all parameters within a competitive procurement process using the GCloud 13 Framework.

Subsequent to the procurement process Thalamos have worked closely at system level with the local Integrated Care System, Our Dorset and NHS Dorset Integrated Care Board. Working across the region, Thalamos has engaged all stakeholders involved in the Mental Health Act and care pathway including Acute Hospital Trusts, Local Authorities, Police, and the Ambulance Service.

How we successfully achieved this

By working in partnership with the local Mental Health Trust and engaging the whole system from the outset, Thalamos have developed a blueprint for MHA digitisation at a system wide level in tandem with the local ICS. The project has a carefully considered four phase deployment that adhered to a robust implementation plan, documenting milestones, risks, and KPIs.

  • Mapping local ecosystems across all sites
  • Mapping the existing MHA pathway and documenting all local processes
  • Putting DPIAs in place quickly
  • Engaging all local stakeholders and 3rd party (AMHP teams)
  • Coordinating resources to deploy regionally

The four-phase deployment includes:

  1. Programme establishment and kick-off
  2. Process mapping and stakeholder engagement
  3. Orientation/training
  4. Roll-out/adoption

The full roll-out is planned across 2024 with an agreed target of 80% of users trained within one month.

Unlawful detention

Thalamos helped reduce unlawful detentions in one trust by 100% by providing timely and accurate patient status information.

Clinical benefit

Patients can be discharged 1-3 days sooner by trusts using Thalamos, with estimated annual saving costs of between £360,000 and £1.08m.

Error reduction

At one site using paper, there was an estimated 25% error rate. This error rate has been dramatically reduced to 1.6% since using Thalamos.

We believe that there should be no distinction or disparity between emergency physical and mental health care as exists currently.

How we're helping

"It sounds really good, we’ve had instances where people are sending the wrong forms so this sounds really good.... I think its great. It’s only an improvement on what we’ve been doing."
"Thalamos saves a lot of time for nurses on the ward. It easily saves 15 to 30 minutes each time they have to read through section papers. This enables the ward staff to spend more time with patients and young people."
"Thalamos is the best thing since sliced bread."
